RELEASE
UPDATE: THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY OUT OF PRINT: IT IS NOW CONSIDERED
A COLLECTORS ITEM:
This 'THINGS ARE SWINGIN' album has been repackaged. The new title is, "Tennille
Sings Big Band". The CD has simply been repackaged and contains the
same great tunes that the originally released (1994) CD (on the Captain &
Tennille's own label, "Purebred Records") contained. CD song titles are listed
just below...
HONEST ENTERTAINMENT", a Nashville, TN based record company, (www.onemusic.com) recently picked up this 'swingin' album, attractively repackaged it, and now calls it "Tennille Sings Big Band". It was officially released in April, 1998.
It's good news
that a number of today's singers are belatedly discovering the timeless charm
of Kern, Porter, Arlen, Van Heusen, Mercer, Rodgers and Hart and the Gershwins,
but it's laughable when some try to swing. Such is not the case with Toni Tennille,
whose father, Frank Tennille, sang and recorded with Ben Polack's legendary
big band and with its successor, led by Bob Crosby.
Matt Catingub also comes with solid credentials for this project. His mother
was the wonderful jazz singer and Capitol Records recording artist, Mavis Rivers.
Matt won the prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival scholarship prize for his playing,
composing and arranging.
The object here was to revive the straight-ahead sound of a big, brassy, self
propelled big band with singing that swings just as easily and surely.
